Global Warming

On Feb. 2, 2007, the United Nations scientific panel studying climate change declared that the evidence of a warming trend is "unequivocal," and that human activity has "very likely" been the driving force in that change over the last 50 years. The last report by the group, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, in 2001, had found that humanity had "likely" played a role.
The addition of that single word "very" did more than reflect mounting scientific evidence that the release of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases from smokestacks, tailpipes and burning forests has played a central role in raising the average surface temperature of the earth by more than 1 degree Fahrenheit since 1900. It also added new momentum to a debate that now seems centered less over whether humans are warming the planet, but instead over what to do about it. In recent months, business groups have banded together to make unprecedented calls for federal regulation of greenhouse gases. The subject had a red-carpet moment when former Vice President Al Gore's documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth," was awarded an Oscar; and the Supreme Court made its first global warming-related decision, ruling 5 to 4 that the Environmental Protection Agency had not justified its position that it was not authorized to regulate carbon dioxide.

How To Download

Downloading refers to the method by which you access digital information from a remote computer. As it turns out, almost everything you do on the Web is some form of downloading. For instance, when you access a web page, you are actually downloading the text document and all its associated graphics from a web server. As the digital data arrives, your web browser assembles it on your screen.
Another way to download a file is to click on a link with your right mouse button (or hold the mouse button down if you are using a Mac), and select Save to Disk or Save Target As... from the pop-up menu. In some cases, you will be prompted to save the file somewhere on your hard drive, or the file may download automatically to your desktop, depending on how your browser is configured.

Saving an Image

Once a graphic or photo is displayed on your monitor, you may want to save it for future reference. Here's how to do it:
a) First, place your cursor over the graphic.

b) Windows users: Click your right mouse button. A pop-up box appears. Macintosh users: Click and hold the mouse button until the pop-up box appears.

c) Save the image to your hard drive by selecting the Save Picture AS option.

d) You can accept the current file name or rename the file. (Graphic files are usually in .gif or .jpg format.)
Compressed and Self-Extracting Files

With software, more often than not, you will be downloading files that have been compressed. These may be individual files or groups of files that have been compressed into a single file. This is done to save downloading time and disk space. If the files have been compressed, you need a separate software utility to decompress them.
The exception are self-extracting files, those with a .sea (Macintosh) or .exe (Windows) extension. These files do not require a separate software program to run. Because many files take considerable time to download to your computer, you will want to save yourself the headache of discovering, after the fact, that you downloaded a file that won't run on your computer. How can you tell? Read the Learn The Net article about file formats and extensions for more information on file extensions and how to interpret them.

Buisnee around the WORLD

Sometimes we have lofty work goals: become CEO, earn a million dollars before we're 30, make the cover of Time magazine. And other times we have simpler aims. Perhaps the most universal concern of all workers, regardless of gender or industry, is the desire not to appear foolish.
The prospect of committing a faux pas in front of your peers, boss or clients is enough to make you blush. A case of the hiccups or giving a presentation with your zipper down will haunt you for the rest of your career. The odds of making a social misstep increase when you travel abroad. U.S. workers making business trips to other countries often find themselves trying to put their best foot forward but instead end up stepping on the toes of their hosts.

Don't always clean your plate
The dinner table is the perfect venue to commit a well-intentioned gaffe. Nancy Mitchell of The Etiquette Advocate trains clients on business protocols and etiquette. One of her clients recently admitted that he offended a Chinese business associate on his first trip to Beijing. The business associate invited him to dinner on the first night of the visit. His research taught him that in
China, he shouldn't discuss business at such an early stage of his trip, so he went to dinner confident about his efforts to keep the conversation on learning more about China and his host's family.
As the evening progressed, the American politely ate every bit of food on his plate, even as the courses continued and he was full. When the evening ended, the host's warmth had disappeared and he gave the visitor a cold goodbye. The next morning he found out from a co-worker that in China, cleaning your plate means you weren't given enough food. Several helpings of food signal that the host wasn't generous to his or her guest.

Don't get caught off guard
American travelers can often find themselves in awkward situations through no faults of their own. Asking, "How are you?' can get some surprising responses for Americans, says Elisabetta Ghisini, author of "Communicating the American Way." Americans will normally respond to that question with something quick and cheerful, such as "Fine!" or "Good. How are you?"
"But if you happen to be traveling to
Eastern Europe, such an upbeat attitude would be out of place -- 'I'm surviving' or 'Terrible' are perfectly acceptable options," Ghisini says.
In
Germany, unlike in the United States, the birthday boy or girl has the responsibility of initiating celebration, a fact Dustin Weeks learned shortly after she began working for a company. She didn't expect any sort of celebration because she was a new employee, so she remained silent on the matter.
"I was rather surprised when the
HR manager who hired me came down to the trading floor to wish me a happy birthday and then all of my colleagues knew," Weeks says. "They immediately formed a line to shake my hand and wish me a happy birthday. I quickly realized that I was supposed to bring in a treat to celebrate my birthday after a few asked me what I had brought."

More tips
Other rules of etiquette American business travelers might find quirky can found in "Cross-Cultural Selling for Dummies" by Michael Soon Lee. Among them:
· You shouldn't give a Chinese person a clock as a gift. This can be viewed as an unlucky action signaling someone's death.
· Knives don't make good gifts in
Japan as they can be seen as symbolic of cutting ties with the recipient.
· In
New Zealand, a common greeting between two people is to rub or touch noses.
· In
Middle Eastern countries, you shouldn't use your left hand for greetings or to hand someone an object, as the left hand is seen as unclean.

Before you head overseas to woo a client and make some important contacts on behalf of your company, do your homework. Buy some books about etiquette and search online for tips. Some countries even have government-sponsored Web sites that tell visitors what to expect. Perhaps your best resource is a friend or colleague who has visited the country because they can give you advice based on their experiences.

The basic reason behind it is the reduction in wires which will ultimately result in better safety for children in homes and even reduce unnecessary tensions in the office because of tangling wires. But it really takes a lot to choose the perfect wireless keyboard and mouse.
Here are some of the tips on how to choose the wireless keyboard and mouse.

Wireless Keyboard

2. While buying the wireless keyboard, ask to yourself first that what kind of keyboard you prefer. There are two types of keyboards such as ergonomic keyboard and regular keyboard.
3. The ergonomic keyboard provides you the comfortable typing because the keys on this keyboard are split into two separate sections that are slightly angled towards each other. This feature allows your arms to maintain a natural position while typing, which in turn reduces the tension in your shoulders and arms.
4. The regular keyboards are the general ones with multimedia and internet short cut keys.
5. There are also wireless gaming keyboards and media center keyboards. Both groups have copious amounts of extra buttons for launching programs, adjusting the volume and more littering the sides of the keyboard. So if you are a gamer or media player junkie, check out what you need the most.

Another is the wireless optical mouse an optical mouse window in order to determine its position. This kind of mouse also shows better performance on surfaces that are too rough for a wheel mouse.

It is because of wireless keyboard the user has the additional freedom to make data entries without sitting in close proximity to the computer system. The installation and operation become simpler too and ensures uncluttered workplaces. Wireless keyboards usually use a USB keyboard protocol. With the help of wireless mouse, we can easily point and click the programs even if we are sitting far around one and a half meters away. They are helpful for playing games also and reduce tiredness and strain.
Thus we see how advantageous it is to have wireless keyboard and mouse.

Insurance

Insurance, in law and economics, is a form of risk management primarily used to hedge against the risk of a contingent loss. Insurance is defined as the equitable transfer of the risk of a loss, from one entity to another, in exchange for a premium, and can be thought of as a guaranteed small loss to prevent a large, possibly devastating loss. An insurer is a company selling the insurance; an insured is the person or entity buying the insurance. The insurance rate is a factor used to determine the amount to be charged for a certain amount of insurance coverage, called the premium. Risk management, the practice of appraising and controlling risk, has evolved as a discrete field of study and practice.

Types of insurance

Any risk that can be quantified can potentially be insured. Specific kinds of risk that may give rise to claims are known as "perils". An insurance policy will set out in detail which perils are covered by the policy and which are not. Below are (non-exhaustive) lists of the many different types of insurance that exist. A single policy may cover risks in one or more of the categories set out below. For example, auto insurance would typically cover both property risk (covering the risk of theft or damage to the car) and liability risk (covering legal claims from causing an accident). A homeowner's insurance policy in the U.S. typically includes property insurance covering damage to the home and the owner's belongings, liability insurance covering certain legal claims against the owner, and even a small amount of coverage for medical expenses of guests who are injured on the owner's property.

Business insurance

Thiscan be any kind of insurance that protects businesses against risks. Some principal subtypes of business insurance are (a) the various kinds of professional liability insurance, also called professional indemnity insurance, which are discussed below under that name; and (b) the business owner's policy (BOP), which bundles into one policy many of the kinds of coverage that a business owner needs, in a way analogous to how homeowners insurance bundles the coverages that a homeowner needs.

Auto insurance

A wrecked vehicleAuto insurance protects you against financial loss if you have an accident. It is a contract between you and the insurance company. You agree to pay the premium and the insurance company agrees to pay your losses as defined in your policy. Auto insurance provides property, liability and medical coverage: (1) Property coverage pays for damage to or theft of your car. (2) Liability coverage pays for your legal responsibility to others for bodily injury or property damage. and (3) Medical coverage pays for the cost of treating injuries, rehabilitation and sometimes lost wages and funeral expenses. An auto insurance policy is comprised of six different kinds of coverage. Most countries require you to buy some, but not all, of these coverages. If you're financing a car, your lender may also have requirements. Most auto policies are for six months to a year. Your insurance company should notify you by mail when it’s time to renew the policy and to pay your premium.

Home insurance

Home insurance provides compensation for damage or destruction of a home from disasters. In some geographical areas, the standard insurances excludes certain types of disasters, such as flood and earthquakes, that require additional coverage. Maintenance-related problems are the homeowners' responsibility. The policy may include inventory, or this can be bought as a separate policy, especially for people who rent housing. In some countries, insurers offer a package which may include liability and legal responsibility for injuries and property damage caused by members of the household, including pets.

Health

Almost all developed countries have government-supplied insurance for healthHealth insurance policies by the National Health Service in the United Kingdom (NHS) or other publicly-funded health programs will cover the cost of medical treatments. Dental insurance, like medical insurance, is coverage for individuals to protect them against dental costs. In the U.S., dental insurance is often part of an employer's benefits package, along with health insurance. Most countries rely on public funding to ensure that all citizens have universal access to health care.

Disability

Disability insurance policies provide financial support in the event the policyholder is unable to work because of disabling illness or injury. It provides monthly support to help pay such obligations as mortgages and credit cards.Disability overhead insurance allows business owners to cover the overhead expenses of their business while they are unable to work.Total permanent disability insurance provides benefits when a person is permanently disabled and can no longer work in their profession, often taken as an adjunct to life insurance.Workers' compensation insurance replaces all or part of a worker's wages lost and accompanying medical expenses incurred because of a job-related injury.

Casualty

Casualty insurance insures against accidents, not necessarily tied to any specific property.Main article: Casualty insuranceCrime insurance is a form of casualty insurance that covers the policyholder against losses arising from the criminal acts of third parties. For example, a company can obtain crime insurance to cover losses arising from theft or embezzlement.Political risk insurance is a form of casualty insurance that can be taken out by businesses with operations in countries in which there is a risk that revolution or other political conditions will result in a loss.

Life

Life insurance provides a monetary benefit to a decedent's family or other designated beneficiary, and may specifically provide for income to an insured person's family, burial, funeral and other final expenses. Life insurance policies often allow the option of having the proceeds paid to the beneficiary either in a lump sum cash payment or an annuity.Annuities provide a stream of payments and are generally classified as insurance because they are issued by insurance companies and regulated as insurance and require the same kinds of actuarial and investment management expertise that life insurance requires. Annuities and pensions that pay a benefit for life are sometimes regarded as insurance against the possibility that a retiree will outlive his or her financial resources. In that sense, they are the complement of life insurance and, from an underwriting perspective, are the mirror image of life insurance.Certain life insurance contracts accumulate cash values, which may be taken by the insured if the policy is surrendered or which may be borrowed against. Some policies, such as annuities and endowment policies, are financial instruments to accumulate or liquidate wealth when it is needed.

Property

This tornado damage to an Illinois home would be considered an "Act of God" for insurance purposesProperty insurance provides protection against risks to property, such as fire, theft or weather damage. This includes specialized forms of insurance such as fire insurance, flood insurance, earthquake insurance, home insurance, inland marine insurance or boiler insurance.Automobile insurance, known in the UK as motor insurance, is probably the most common form of insurance and may cover both legal liability claims against the driver and loss of or damage to the insured's vehicle itself. Throughout the United States an auto insurance policy is required to legally operate a motor vehicle on public roads. In some jurisdictions, bodily injury compensation for automobile accident victims has been changed to a no-fault system, which reduces or eliminates the ability to sue for compensation but provides automatic eligibility for benefits. Credit card companies insure against damage on rented cars.Driving School Insurance insurance provides cover for any authorized driver whilst undergoing tuition, cover also unlike other motor policies provides cover for instructor liability where both the pupil and driving instructor are equally liable in the event of a claim.Aviation insurance insures against hull, spares, deductibles, hull wear and liability risks.Boiler insurance (also known as boiler and machinery insurance or equipment breakdown insurance) insures against accidental physical damage to equipment or machinery.Builder's risk insurance insures against the risk of physical loss or damage to property during construction. Builder's risk insurance is typically written on an "all risk" basis covering damage due to any cause (including the negligence of the insured) not otherwise expressly excluded.

Liability insurance

Liability insurance is a very broad superset that covers legal claims against the insured. Many types of insurance include an aspect of liability coverage. For example, a homeowner's insurance policy will normally include liability coverage which protects the insured in the event of a claim brought by someone who slips and falls on the property; automobile insurance also includes an aspect of liability insurance that indemnifies against the harm that a crashing car can cause to others' lives, health, or property. The protection offered by a liability insurance policy is twofold: a legal defense in the event of a lawsuit commenced against the policyholder and indemnification (payment on behalf of the insured) with respect to a settlement or court verdict. Liability policies typically cover only the negligence of the insured, and will not apply to results of wilful or intentional acts by the insured.

Credit insurance

Credit insurance repays some or all of a loan when certain things happen to the borrower such as unemployment, disability, or death.Mortgage insurance insures the lender against default by the borrower. Mortgage insurance is a form of credit insurance, although the name credit insurance more often is used to refer to policies that cover other kinds of debt.

and some others........

8 Things You Should Know About Auto Insurance

Trying to understand auto insurance can be as tricky and confusing as trying to untie the Gordian knot. (We hear the knotty Gordian problem can be solved with a sword.) However, some "insider" knowledge can help you understand your options and what you can do to save money and get the most out of your auto insurance.

1) Some of the most helpful coverages are the cheapest.
Auto insurance may be expensive, but if you're already spending a lot, shouldn't you get a lot? Optional coverages such as gap coverage, roadside assistance, rental reimbursement, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, and comprehensive coverage can provide a lot of protection for a little price increase. Comprehensive coverage is usually the most expenasive of these coverages, but is still usually about half the price of collision coverage and a third the price of liability coverage.
Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage is especially important, considering the benefits it offers and the number of uninsured drivers on the road, particularly during this period of economic hardship. Take a look at your coverage options. Paying a little more now may save you a lot in the future.

2) Many factors can affect your car insurance rate.
Auto insurance companies use many different criteria when evaluating an insurance application during a process called underwriting. Each car insurance company has many guidelines regarding which groups of drivers they want to accept and how much they will charge those groups they consider a greater risk. The guidelines are different for each company, meaning that two companies comparing the same driver can arrive at vastly different conclusions.
During the underwriting process, car insurance applicants are placed in a group based on how much money and how many claims the insurance company believes it may have to pay. Underwriting is done automatically by software behind the scenes. At this time, the insurance company will look at motor vehicle records to see how many accidents or tickets a driver has received. Many insurance companies also use an insurance history report to see if the driver has made any car insurance claims, and how much money was paid. Although accidents and violations can only affect the rates you receive for three years, many companies will look back five or more years when deciding if they want to offer you insurance. In addition, many auto insurance companies look at the credit history of the applicant. Although they use credit history to determine which group an applicant belongs to, they don't actually look at a credit report.

3) Insurance prices vary (a lot) by company. You've probably seen commercials saying you can save money by switching to a certain car insurance company. How can so many companies make this claim? The reason is that "auto insurance is a highly competitive business and one of the most effective ways to reduce insurance costs is simply to shop around," according to Jeanne Salvatore, senior vice president of the Insurance Information Institute. "Drivers should look for an insurance company that will provide a good price along with excellent service."
Prices for the same policy from the same company, however, are set by law. They are approved by the state and can't be changed by an agent, so you can't get a better price for the same policy simply by going to a different agent or trying to negotiate the price. The best plan is to decide what coverages and options you need and comparison shop to get the best price.

4) If you let your policy lapse, you'll pay more in the long run.
Most insurance companies view drivers who are licensed but don't have insurance as risky or irresponsible. Because of this, if you let your policy lapse, you'll probably pay more when you go to buy car insurance. To avoid this, if you don't want to pay for insurance or are planning to let your policy expire because you want to switch companies, make sure to purchase car insurance before your current policy is cancelled.

5) Higher deductibles can lower your premium.
Insurance prices are based on how much money the insurance company believes it could have to pay. If you agree to pay for a larger portion of your own damages by raising your deductibles, your car insurance company automatically knows they won't have to pay as much for your claims. Because of this, they will usually give you a lower premium. If you decide to raise your deductibles to save money, be sure you can afford to pay the deductible if you have to make a claim.

6) Insurance discounts can make a difference.
Most insurance companies offer auto insurance discounts for things like a safe driving record, car safety features, anti-theft devices, electronic payments, payment in full, and more. Make sure you're getting rewarded for being a safe driver and for having a safe car by shopping around for car insurance that appreciates your record.
7) Coverage affects what you pay.
The majority of your car insurance premium generally goes toward the legally-required liability portion of your policy. It's typically not a good idea to reduce this portion in an attempt to save money, because you'll be responsible for any amount of damages above your policy limits. However, other coverages, although generally helpful, could be reduced or eliminated to lower your premium. If you have an older car that's not worth very much, or if you won't have a problem paying for a new car, collision and comprehensive coverages may not make economic sense. Talk to your car insurance company or agent about the best options for you.
8) The car you drive can affect your auto insurance rates.
The Highway Loss Data Institute compiles insurance accident statistics for most types of cars. Many insurance companies use data like this when setting prices on your insurance. For example, if the car you drive is very expensive to repair, the company is going to have to pay more if you get in an accident. Conversely, if the car you drive is extremely safe and protects occupants well, your insurance company will not have to pay as much if you're involved in a crash. If your model of car is generally less likely to be stolen, your car insurance company is less likely to have to pay to replace it. All of these car related factors can raise or lower the auto insurance quotes you receive, so it makes sense to keep insurance in mind when purchasing a car. Of course, since rates are based on much more than just the car you drive, your overall rate may be more or less than someone driving the same car.

Fashion

I preface The History of Fashion and Dress with this statement, because I don’t actually see this course as just a history of different bits of clothing worn in different time periods, but rather as a "History of Western Civilization" course as taught by a female, white, middle class, middle aged costume designer, who thinks that what is important isn’t what people wore, but why they wore it. And who thinks that the history of fashion and dress is the history of everyone. Where the history of politics primarily concerns the power struggles of the upper classes, and the history of war, the power struggles of men, fashion history is about struggles between rich and poor, men and women, East and West, and indigenous populations and colonists.
Clothing for me is a beautiful visual demonstration of the social and emotional needs of it’s wearers, and as such, shows in a clearly understood visual way what people of differing times and cultures wanted socially. Western Fashion is a good beginning, in that it has gone through so many rapid changes and bizarre extremes that it has examples of nearly every kind of clothing function. So I will teach a brief over view of my "history" of Western Civilization, as seen by a female, white, middle class, middle aged costume designer, through The History of Fashion and Dress. Naturally, this being the case, it will illuminate what I think is important in history: aesthetics, the position of women, technological innovations in garment manufacture, sex fetishism, personal self expression, social and political revolutions, and of course, clothes

E-banking

Pay The Bill Throuh Online:
Bill payments:
For others, bill payment represents the final frontier of the Internet: Can I trust a computer program to pay my bills cleanly, or should I just stick with writing checks and licking stamps?
If you are tired of piling paper clutter and managing due dates for bills, get ready to cross the border into electronic bill payment. You will be happy to learn that online bill payment is not only easy, but more and more banks in the region are offering the service for free.
Get started
On your e-banking website, you will typically find guides or FAQs that walk you through the steps of how to register the accounts you wish to pay from and payee accounts you wish to pay to. You only need to enter the account information once; your online banking site will keep those accounts available until you remove them. You can always change the accounts from which you wish to pay your bills and add more payees as needed. Most banks offer this service to cover utility companies and a handful of other recurring billers.
Making payments
Once you have registered the accounts you wish to pay online, the next step is to schedule payment. You simply select the account you wish to pay from, the payee account you wish to pay to and the amount you wish to pay. Your creditors receive your online payment in one of two ways: electronic payment or check. If the payee is set up to accept electronic payments, your payment is automatically debited from the account you select and deposited electronically into their account, just as if you had written a check. If the payee cannot accept electronic payments, and most businesses cannot, they will be issued a check based on your online paymentinstructions, hence your bank's 3-5 day grace period.
Tracking your payments

Naturally, you want to make sure your online bill payments get processed correctly and on time. You should always check your accounts 1-2 days after your request date to verify that your bill payment request has been executed. You should also remember that it could take several days for your creditor to apply the payment to your account. For peace of mind, you may want to request that your bank send an alert to your e-mail, wireless device or online banking website when a payment clears. As with account transfers, you may want to print the transaction-completed or receipt page when you pay your bills online as a reminder to make sure they post on your e-banking site or in your next statement.

why to choose a Satellite Provider: Dish Network?

As with everything, satellite providers have competition. The great thing to know is that there are only two, Dish Network and DirecTV.Dish Network has not been on the scene as long as DirecTV, but this does not mean the quality is not present.

Dish Network provides over 250 channels to any satellite family. They have several packages so that you can choose if you want movie, sports, and other channels.Like most even cable, Dish Network provides the lower channels such as USA, FOX, NBC, and those like them in every package. This means you can just have these channels or you can add specialty channels like HBO, Starz, and the sports channels.Dish Network also provides Sirius satellite radio channels.

When you are looking to buy satellite tv, keep in mind that you need to have the equipment from Dish Network in order to use their service. Each satellite company has a signal that recognizes the individual dishes. This is how they know which channels you have paid for and which ones you have not. This also tells them that you are up to date on payments and have not cancelled service. If you have a DirecTV dish, but no longer wish to use their service for whatever reason, you will need to buy new equipment. There are deals out there to make this process a little less painful on your pocket book.Another thing to keep in mind is that both satellite providers offer the same types of packages for around the same cost.Often one company has different channels.

The Difference With Cable vs. Satellite TV

You might be wondering what difference there is in cable vs. satellite TV. You might think it is just the way you receive the signal and in large that part it is. There are other differences as well. Let us look at a few of those differences below.Cable vs. Satellite TV can often seem like a hard question to answer. Cable television is provided by a coaxial cable. This cable actually runs a great distance to reach your television. It is very easy for your cable signal to waver in and out because of this coaxial cable. Interference can be great if there is a storm and it knocks the lines down or if someone is working on the road and accidentally hits the wires in the ground. This is not to say cable is a bad choice. Cable also can be digital, which gives you are better, clearer quality signal than regular TV. You also have to have a cable box if you have digital cable. The cost of cable for channels you receive is usually a little bit more than satellite TV especially if you want to add movie channels.

When considering Cable vs. Satellite TV, you need to consider how you receive the signal; you actually receive an uninterrupted signal from the satellite when you have a satellite dish. You do have to have a receiver and it takes a little bit to get the satellite oriented on the signal, but you only have to worry about the coaxial cable going from the receiver to the television, so the signal is usually clearer on satellite. In addition, the satellite is digital as long as you have a television that receives the digital signal you will be able to receive a digital picture.
